The Phil is honored to participate in America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration with a captivating evening of English and England-inspired music on November 22nd at Plymouth Memorial Hall. Under the baton of Plymouth Phil assistant conductor Neal Hampton, the orchestra will present works by renowned English composers Benjamin Britten, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, along with selections from Hampton’s own adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense & Sensibility: The Musical. Conductor Steven Karidoyanes kicks off this passionate musical fest leading the orchestra in Symphony No. 2, composed by Louise Farrenc, a well-known composer, concert pianist, and professor at the posh Paris Conservatoire in the mid-1800’s. Farrenc’s memory faded from public audiences over time however her legacy lives on in this bold and brilliant symphony inspired by Mozart and Beethoven but in a rich and romantic dialect all her own. The Junior Scholarship winner, Daniel Kelley from East Bridgewater, will use his award of $2500 for music lessons to enhance his success in applying to a four-year college music program in the upcoming 2024-25 school year. On Saturday, March 23, conductor Steven Karidoyanes leads the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra in selections born of great collaborations. The evening opens with talented South Shore Conservatory Youth Orchestra members joining musicians of the Phil, creating a supersized orchestra of over one hundred musicians.
