GREAT
COLLABORATIONS
MARCH 23 | 7:30 PM
Great music comes from great collaborations. You’ll be among the first to hear our newest commission, honoring the living story of the Wampanoag nation in Tonya Wind Singer’s richly-layered orchestral tone poem. More than a century earlier, the work of artist Victor Hartmann inspired another unexpected collaboration, Pictures at an Exhibition. Mussorgsky composed it as a suite for piano. Years later, Ravel transformed it into a concerto for orchestra. The two works collide spectacularly in this bold, brilliant—and unusual—Russian and French musical alliance. And in honor of our own ongoing collaboration with the South Shore Conservatory, we’ll unleash two orchestras on The Bamboula, a lively, infectiously melodic piece based on an African dance by one of Britain’s most famous composers.
